Five-Year Prison Term for Sharing Military Mobilization Data Online

According to Novyny.live: A court in Poltava, Ukraine, has sentenced a local man to five years in prison, with a two-year probationary period, for obstructing the country's military mobilization. The Shevchenkivskyi District Court found him guilty of using the Telegram messaging app to share information about the locations and operations of military recruitment groups and checkpoints.

The convicted individual, an unmarried and unemployed Poltava native with no prior criminal record, joined a Telegram chat with over 27,000 members in early 2024. Throughout 2024 and 2025, he repeatedly posted details such as addresses, landmarks, and operating hours of mobilization points and checkpoints to the group's participants. This sentencing occurs within the context of Ukraine's ongoing war effort, where information security is treated with the utmost seriousness.

Legal Repercussions and the Importance of Compliance

The court prosecuted the man under Part 1 of Article 114-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and also ordered the confiscation of the smartphone used to transmit the data for the benefit of the state. This case underscores the strict legal consequences for actions deemed to compromise national security during wartime.

The ruling highlights how sharing sensitive operational information, even in private online groups, is considered a severe criminal offense that can undermine national defense. It signals that Ukrainian law enforcement is actively monitoring and prosecuting threats to information security to prevent similar crimes in the future.
