International Coalition Backs Ukraine's Energy Sector with Over 40 Nations Offering Support.
International Delegation Visits Kyiv
According to UATV: On February 24, 2023, marking four years since Russia's full-scale invasion, international partners visited Kyiv and toured a damaged combined heat and power plant (CHPP). Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that support for Ukraine's energy sector has been pledged by more than 40 countries. The damaged CHPP had previously provided heating for approximately 500,000 residents of the Ukrainian capital. This visit underscores the global effort to help Ukraine maintain its critical infrastructure under relentless attack.
Shmyhal also reported that Ukraine has received over 2,000 shipments of humanitarian aid for its energy sector, a crucial component in rebuilding the country's damaged infrastructure. Furthermore, the Energy Support Fund has mobilized around 600 million euros for 2025, highlighting the international community's commitment to sustaining Ukraine's power grid.
'After every strike, we carry out repairs, often under the threat of repeated attacks. I am grateful to every country that provides the equipment necessary for restoration.' — Denys Shmyhal
He further described the scene: 'This is simultaneously a crime scene and proof of Russian barbarism, but also a place that demonstrates our resilience, partnership, and solidarity.' These words emphasize not only the immense challenges Ukraine faces but also the vital importance of international backing during this critical period.
The Critical Role of Global Support
The visit by international partners to Kyiv and the widespread support for Ukraine's energy sector demonstrate the world's sustained commitment to assisting Ukraine during the ongoing war. Restoring energy infrastructure is critically important for ensuring energy security and the basic functioning of society amid constant threats. Support from other nations not only provides essential resources but also reinforces the solidarity of the international community with the Ukrainian people in their struggle for independence and national recovery. This coalition is vital for Ukraine's survival and eventual rebuilding.
