Every day at 9 a.m., Ukrainians honor the memory of all those whose lives were taken by the Russian-Ukrainian war. Today, we remember Dmytro Hrytsai.

Dmytro Hrytsai (call sign Asterix) was seriously injured in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation on September 15, 2024. This was reported by the Lviv City Council.

Hrytsai was born on August 9, 1985, in Lviv. He studied at Secondary General Education School No. 91 in Lviv.

Throughout his life, he primarily worked in the construction industry, including abroad. In his spare Time, he enjoyed fishing and mushroom picking. According to relatives, he was an extraordinarily kind and helpful person. In 2007, he lost his father and found it hard to cope with his death.

With the start of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he took up arms to defend his homeland from the invaders. He defended the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine as part of the 21st Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The warrior fought against the occupiers in Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Mykolaiv regions. During his service, he earned the rank of 'Junior Sergeant', received the 'For Service to the Ukrainian People' medal, and was repeatedly recognized by military command.

On the morning of September 15, 2024, Dmytro was still talking to his mother and daughter; he was cheerful and was planning a break with his comrades. However, around 4 p.m., when the guys led by Asterix were heading for a vacation, the occupiers launched guided aerial bombs (CAB) at the boys' vehicle. While driving, Asterix saved his comrades, but unfortunately lost his life from injuries incompatible with life. Dmytro Hrytsai (Asterix) died on September 15, 2024, in the Kursk region at the age of 39,' said the wife of the fallen warrior, Victoria Hrytsai, in a petition published on the President of Ukraine's website.

Relatives say that in his last months, Dmytro Hrytsai was very happy.

The funeral service for defender Dmytro Hrytsai took place on September 24, 2024, at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, after a city-wide farewell ceremony in Rynok Square; the warrior was buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.

Dmytro Hrytsai is survived by his mother, wife, and daughter.

'Glavkom' joins in a moment of silence. We honor the memory of all Ukrainians who died in the fight for their homeland. We remember those killed by Russian invaders, we light candles of memory, and bow our heads in mourning during the nationwide moment of silence, honoring the bright memory of citizens of Ukraine who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of the state: all military personnel, civilians, and children, all who died fighting against the Russian occupiers and as a result of the attack of hostile troops on Ukrainian cities and villages.
