Store closures

The Poundland store in Portsmouth at North End will close tomorrow.

The store on Cibi Walk in Abergavenny will close a few days after the start of the closing sale.

This store, which opened in 2014, will finally close on September 27.

Two more stores will close in October. One is located in Llyswen on Wirral, where a pre-closure sale has already begun on October 1.

The store in Lowestoft is also holding a 30% discount promotion before its closure on October 10.

All four stores are closing due to the expiration of lease terms.

The store on Trevenson Road in Camborne Retail Park will also close, although the neighboring store on Trevithick Road will remain open.

These closures follow the announcement of reorganization plans that will see dozens of outlets shut down.

The plan was approved by the High Court last month and helped the company avoid bankruptcy when it was on the brink of financial collapse.

Previously, the company had 800 stores, but after the reorganization, there will be between 650 and 700 left.

Before the sale of the company for £1 in June, the new owner Gordon Brothers announced a £90 million investment to save the business.

Other changes at Poundland

Customers can no longer order products from the Poundland website, and the Poundland Perks loyalty program has also been discontinued.

Customers who used the loyalty program have until January 15, 2026, to use their coupons.

In addition, the company will close its frozen foods center and digital distribution in Darton, South Yorkshire, this year.

Sales in some stores offer discounts of up to 90%.

This development underscores the challenges currently facing the retail sector, indicating that even major chains must adapt to changing conditions. In an environment of financial uncertainty, many stores are facing issues that force them to rethink strategies and reduce their extensive networks.

The closure of Poundland stores will be an occurrence likely to impact local communities, as the company has been a significant player in retail. Broad discounts in the remaining stores may attract new shoppers, but the long-term effects of such changes remain beyond our forecast.
