Ukrainians explained who is responsible for payment of gas meter verification: important details.
Ukrainian consumers of natural gas are required to regularly check their gas meters. Gas meter verification is a mandatory procedure that allows checking the accuracy of their operation. The work related to the preparation for verification is carried out by specialists of the Gas Distribution Network Operator, while the verification procedure is conducted by state verifiers. The verification period depends on the class of the meter: for class 1.0 – 2 years, for class 1.5 – 8 years.
If the verification period has expired and the meter has not been checked due to the consumer's fault, the readings will be considered invalid and charges will be based on general consumption norms. This may lead to inflated amounts on bills. The costs of verifying the meters should be covered by the Gas Distribution Network Operators, while non-household consumers must monitor verification deadlines and pay for their conduct.
Gas meter verification is not only a mandatory procedure but also helps to avoid misunderstandings and discrepancies in gas payments. Good practices in meter verification contribute to transparency and understanding between consumers and gas suppliers.
