The USA has initiated the development of the largest rare metal deposit in 70 years: details.
A new deposit of rare earth elements has been discovered in the United States, marking the first such finding in the last 70 years. The Brook Mine in Wyoming contains up to 1.7 million tons of these valuable minerals, although a significant portion of the area has not yet been explored.
This was reported by The Daily Galaxy.
More details about the rare elements deposit in the USA
The presence of rare earth minerals at the Brook Mine became known back in 2023 when the company Ramaco Resources announced it. Gallium, scandium, neodymium, and praseodymium were found here, which are essential for the production of high-tech devices, renewable energy systems, and military equipment. Additionally, the deposit contains reserves of lithium, nickel, cobalt, and graphite, making it strategically important for the supply of these resources.
- In 2023, the USA purchased 100,000 tons of rare earth metals, and at the Brook Mine, up to 1,400 tons can be extracted annually, helping to reduce the country's dependence on supplies from China.
'The discovery occurred at a time when global supplies of these elements are under great pressure, especially considering that China controls nearly 90% of the world's volume,' noted the authors of the article.
This discovery will not only strengthen the USA's position in the rare earth elements market but also enhance national security and strategic supply chains for the defense and technology sectors.
