Chelsea presented many officials in Manchester, including Behdad Egbal, Paul Winstein, Laurence Stewart, Jo Shilds, Sam Jewel, and Daniel Finkelstein, who occupied seats in the VIP box.

According to information from The Mail, former Premier League player David Weir joined the Chelsea representatives.

David Weir, who is 55 years old, was spotted at the match less than two weeks after his unexpected dismissal as technical director at Brighton.

His appearance raised interest, considering Chelsea's recent acquisitions of players and staff from 'The Seagulls' over the last three years.

However, it is said that the former Scotland national team defender was merely a guest of the Chelsea representatives.

Weir was probably invited by his good friend Winstein, with whom he previously worked at Brighton. Their wives are also friends and accompanied the men in the box.

Additionally, the former Rangers star lives near Old Trafford.

Chelsea and Brighton: long-standing connections

Since Todd Boehly became co-owner and chairman of Chelsea in 2022, the club has signed 15 players and staff from Brighton.

These connections began with young players Zak Sturge and Shumayra Mheuknie, who joined the club over a month ago.

Marcel Cucurella was later signed for £62 million, and Graham Potter also moved to Chelsea along with five staff members.

In December of the same year, Winstein left the club at Falmer and became Chelsea's director of football.

In February 2024, Sam Jewel took over the leadership of the club's global scouting network and is responsible for negotiations with players.

Chelsea broke the British transfer record by signing Moisés Caicedo for £115 million.

In the same month, the club also finalized a £25 million deal for Robert Sanchez.

And in the summer, Chelsea signed João Pedro for £55 million.

The Premier League giants have not rested on their laurels, as their team also included Julio Enciso before his move to sister club 'Strasbourg'.

With David Weir's appearance at the Chelsea match, discussions about the connections between the clubs, which seem to be growing stronger, were sparked. Chelsea has long been actively working with Brighton, and such acquaintances may present additional opportunities in the future.
