Iranian President took the oath amidst chants of "Death to America and Israel".
Masoud Pezeshkian became the President of Iran after winning the elections and took the oath. He promised to improve the country's ties with the world and ease restrictions on social freedoms within the country. He delivered his speech at a parliamentary session in the presence of foreign officials. "We will continue constructive and effective interaction with the world, based on dignity, wisdom, and prudence," Pezeshkian said. His victory raised hopes for improved relations between Iran and the West, which could lead to a reduction in tension in the nuclear standoff with world powers.
However, Iran welcomes the new president against a backdrop of rising tensions in the Middle East due to the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, as well as fighting with Hezbollah in Lebanon, which is an ally of Iran. Iran accused the United States of supporting Israeli violence in Gaza. Pezeshkian stated: "Those who supply weapons that kill children cannot teach Muslims about humanity." He said this phrase during chants of "Death to America" and "Death to Israel".
The ceremony was attended by leaders of Hamas and Islamic Jihad, as well as representatives of the Iran-supported Houthi movement from Yemen and Lebanese Hezbollah.
