Ukrainians in Poland may lose their legal status: what to do before September 30.
According to inkorr.com: From October 1, Ukrainians may lose the opportunity to legally stay in Poland. This information was reported by the publication 'Khvyla', citing inpoland.net.
New initiative of the President of Poland
President of Poland Andrzej Duda refused to support the proposal to extend the temporary protection status for Ukrainian refugees until March 2026. Instead, he presented a new draft law to parliament, according to which social benefits and free medical assistance will only be available to Ukrainians who have official jobs in Poland.
Dorota Loboda:
the special law on assistance to Ukrainians in Poland has been in effect since 2022 and regulates their rights to residence, employment, education, and medical care. Currently, over one million Ukrainians in Poland find themselves uncertain about maintaining their legal status.
Lawyers' Recommendations
This law applies not only to those who fled the war after February 24, but also to Ukrainians who arrived in Poland earlier. Lawyers advise submitting documents for temporary residence by September 30 to ensure a certain level of protection.
The discussion regarding the draft law on assistance to Ukrainians has caused significant concern among more than a million Ukrainians who may lose their legal status in Poland. The new draft law, which limits social benefits and medical services only to those officially employed, may force many to change their plans and apply for a new status by the end of September.
Changes in legislation are necessitated by the need to regulate the rules for the stay of foreigners in Poland amidst a growing economic situation. Many Ukrainians who were forced to leave their country now urgently need to respond to new requirements, posing a number of challenges in obtaining status and social support.
