President of Portugal on Trump: He Acts Like a Kremlin Agent.
According to FREEДOM:
Criticism of Trump
The President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, sharply criticized U.S. President Donald Trump for his role in the peaceful settlement of the war between Russia and Ukraine, stating that he behaves like 'one among Soviet or Russian agents'. He expressed these thoughts at a youth event at the Summer University organized by social democrats, reported by the publication FREEДOM, referencing Portugal Pulse.
“The main leader of the most prominent world superpower is objectively a Soviet or Russian agent. He acts like an agent,” the President of Portugal stated.
De Sousa also emphasized that the alliance between Washington and the Kremlin cannot be considered friendly or based on shared ideology.
“I assert that objectively the new American leadership has strategically benefited Russia,” De Sousa noted, commenting on Trump’s approach to the Russian-Ukrainian war.
State of World Relationships
The President of Portugal added that today the U.S. and Russia are effectively 'arbiters' in the matter of ending the war, excluding Ukraine and Europe from key negotiations.
“Every day there are terrifying threats of sanctions. Have there been any American sanctions against Russia under the new President? No. And they still threaten with huge sanctions... But it is known that nothing has happened, as Europe underestimated Trump and the possibility of a sudden shift in the balance of power,” the President of Portugal emphasized.
In his opinion, this position weakens European influence and creates risks for stability in the region.
Previously, Trump stated that the United States would not send its troops to Ukraine under the security guarantees. However, Washington promised to help Europe ensure military presence on Ukrainian territory.
This criticism pertains not only to the formal relations between countries but also to how their policies can play a role in a broader context. In a situation where international security is becoming increasingly relevant, it is important to monitor how major powers can influence stability around the world.
