Significant progress in preparing the peace agreement for Ukraine, - Donald Trump

On February 27, 2025, US President Donald Trump announced significant progress in preparing the peace agreement for Ukraine during a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Trump emphasized that the agreement on rare earth metals, which he plans to sign with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday, will serve as a kind of 'insurance mechanism' for Ukraine. He also stated that Putin 'will keep his word' and will not invade Ukraine after the signing of the peace agreement.

The US President also stressed that ensuring Ukraine's security is the easy part, but reaching an agreement is a more complex task. In the course of negotiations, the US will try to return as much territory to Ukraine as possible, however, NATO membership will not happen.

Keir Starmer, in turn, thanked Trump for changing the approach to Ukraine and noted that only 'American guarantees can provide long-term peace in Ukraine.'

Trump also announced plans to impose additional tariffs on the European Union due to its attitude towards the US and American companies. In addition, the American president confirmed that his second state visit to the United Kingdom at the invitation of King Charles III will take place soon.
