Kaia Kallas: The EU is preparing a new sanctions package against Russia due to the threat from Putin.
Reliable security guarantees for Ukraine: the importance of deterring Russia from attacking
Putin cannot be trusted, so only reliable security guarantees for Ukraine can stop Russia from a possible attack in the future. This was stated on social media by the EU's high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, Kaia Kallas, expressing support for the unity of EU leaders on the issue of ensuring security for both Ukraine and all of Europe.
Kallas emphasized: 'Putin cannot be trusted in promises or commitments. Therefore, security guarantees must be strong and reliable to prevent a possible new attack from Russia. The EU will continue to take measures against Russia's military economy, planning the next sanctions package next month. These issues are a priority for us in cooperation with the EU foreign and defense ministers.'
'Putin cannot be trusted to fulfill any promises or commitments. That is exactly why security guarantees must be strong and reliable enough to prevent Russia's regrouping and a new attack. The EU, for its part, will continue to take measures against Russia's military economy. The next sanctions package concerning Moscow should be ready next month. I have prioritized these issues on the agenda for discussion with the EU foreign and defense ministers,' Kallas emphasized.
Previously, Kaia Kallas noted that Russia shows no intention of ending the war and continues its actions until it understands that it cannot continue this way. Therefore, the European Union and the United States must increase pressure on Russia.
The statements of the EU's main representative emphasize that the territorial integrity and security of Ukraine remain an important issue for the international community, and specific measures must be agreed upon to prevent aggression from Russia.
