Ahead of Ankara Summit, Latvia’s President Urges NATO to Bolster Its Forces.
NATO Must Strengthen Its Military Capabilities
According to Espreso.tv: On the eve of a NATO summit in Ankara, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs has called for a significant buildup of the alliance’s military power. While he stated that a full-scale Russian invasion of NATO countries is currently unlikely due to Moscow’s limited military resources, he warned that other threats demand the alliance’s immediate attention.
Baltic Region Faces Rising Threats
Rinkēvičs highlighted that the Baltic region is experiencing acts of sabotage orchestrated by Russia. These activities include:
- espionage operations carried out by Russian intelligence services
- the orchestrated movement of migrants across the Belarus-Latvia border
The president emphasized that should Russia pose a challenge, NATO would respond appropriately, underscoring the alliance’s readiness to defend its member states.
This call to reinforce NATO’s military capacity underscores the critical need for collective security amid escalating Russian threats, especially given the heightened tensions in the Baltic region. — Edgars Rinkēvičs
In light of recent developments—such as spy activities and migrant-related issues—Latvia, along with other alliance members, continues to seek ways to ensure its security and regional stability.
