Expert NZT: Putin's Aggression Leads Russia to Catastrophe and Dependency on China

According to ТСН: Despite the ongoing advance of Russian troops, the Kremlin's army has not achieved any significant results during the comprehensive aggression. According to experts, Vladimir Putin's policies are leading the country to catastrophe by undermining its power and making it dependent on external forces.

Expert's Opinion

A political scientist from Switzerland, Andreas Resch, shared his thoughts on this in a column for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung. He noted that the Russian leader can currently only boast of having instilled fear in Europe and forcing it to allocate significant resources for rearmament. Nevertheless, the aggression did not bring Moscow either prestige or influence in the world.

“Russia has gained neither prestige nor global influence through its aggression. On the contrary: Putin's empire is weaker today than it was four years ago. He is on a fateful path that exhausts his country and makes it dependent on China,” the political scientist noted.

Losses and Crisis Symptoms

The expert believes that Russia's helplessness is becoming increasingly evident in various parts of the world. It has lost positions in Latin America, failed to support Nicolás Maduro's regime, and acted during the massive protests in Iran, even though it previously actively supported Bashar al-Assad in Syria. In the South Caucasus, Russia no longer plays the role of Armenia's defender, and in Central Asia, China, which has become Kazakhstan's main trading partner, is taking its place.

The author points to Russia's internal problems and emphasizes that the successes of the war economy are illusory, as they have already peaked. Currently, about 40% of the RF's state budget is spent on security structures, which negatively affects long-term development. At the same time, the oil and gas-producing sector, which is the Kremlin's Achilles' heel, suffers from sanctions and falling prices, leading to revenues nearly halving within a year.

The expert also points out that the situation is exacerbated by a deep demographic crisis and enormous losses at the front, which could reach up to one million people, including the wounded.

“Putin's obsession with Ukraine has forced Russia to neglect other areas of interest. But Putin has suffered his greatest strategic defeat in Ukraine. His goal of erasing Ukraine as an independent state from the map seems even more unrealistic today than it did four years ago,” the expert emphasized.

Division of the West

The only success Putin sees is in dividing the West, but he does not attribute this to the Kremlin's capabilities, rather to Donald Trump's policies. In summary, he notes that Trump's rhetoric about the 'hopelessness of the struggle' and the halting of aid undermines the West's confidence and creates the impression that Russia is stronger than it actually is.

Against the backdrop of economic decline and growing budget deficits, Putin demands that tax revenues increase as early as 2026.

According to a British colonel, Trump's peace plan turned out to be worse for Russia than for Ukraine, and the Kremlin's nuclear blackmail no longer intimidates the West.

Thus, the situation in Russia remains tense, and its foreign and domestic policies raise more and more questions. Experts point to the potential implications of these processes for both Russia and the international political arena. Uncertainty and the prospects for further developments remain unclear, but one thing is certain: the changing world demands new strategies and decisions from the Kremlin.
