Putin Justifies Iranian Aggression Against Israel - ISW.
The Institute for the Study of War stated that Vladimir Putin is increasingly expressing an anti-Israel stance and intensifying the justification of Iranian aggression.
According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Israel struck, resulting in the death of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, in order to thwart attempts to establish peace in the Middle East.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted to Haniyeh's death, stating that it "strongly condemns" the killing and emphasized that it occurred during Haniyeh's visit to Tehran for the inauguration of President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Analysts note that the Russian Foreign Ministry did not directly accuse Israel, but stated that the "organizers of this political assassination" were aware of the "dangerous consequences" that Haniyeh's death would have for the entire region.
Analysts believe that Russia's decision to publicly accuse Israel of destabilizing peace prospects in the Middle East and to threaten "dangerous consequences" indicates an increasing willingness of Russia to join Iran in a war against Israel.
According to the Institute's report, since the beginning of the war between Israel and HAMAS, Putin has been increasingly expressing an anti-Israel position and intensifying information operations aimed at justifying Iranian aggression against Israel.
