Putin is preparing a sweet trap for Trump: what will be the main topic of the negotiations.
Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump are set to meet for negotiations, and the Russian leader has already been dubbed a 'master negotiator.' According to journalist Ivor Bennett, Putin's main goal is to convince Trump that a deal is beneficial for Russia. But he must do this in such a way that the American president does not feel deceived and does not lose face. Therefore, it is possible that the promise to meet with Ukrainian President Zelensky could become that 'moment' Trump can boast about to the world.
'I expect the Russian president to try to play on Trump's desire for a quick resolution to the conflict and his wish to claim credit for it,' Bennett writes.
Putin may attempt to lure Trump to his side with 'sweeteners' by offering deals on rare metals, joint projects in the Arctic, and control over nuclear weapons. The topic of discussion will also include the cessation of the war in Ukraine, according to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Media reports suggest that some agreements may have already been reached before the negotiations themselves.
