Russian Drones in Polish Airspace: NATO Activates Article 4.
Violation of Polish Airspace
According to The Sun: Drones reportedly belonging to Vladimir Putin have invaded Polish airspace, likely heading towards a NATO base.
Five of these drones were flying directly towards the base. Vladimir Zelensky noted that this was an attempt to slow down the supply of air defense resources to Ukraine ahead of winter.

NATO and Poland's Response
The drones that entered Polish airspace on Wednesday morning prompted Warsaw to activate Article 4 of NATO, signaling a serious threat.
This incident marks the first time NATO has directly interacted with Putin's forces since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
According to the German newspaper Die Welt, the location the drones could have been targeting supplies military resources to Ukraine.
According to a senior NATO officer, 'based on today's information, we believe the drones likely entered NATO airspace intentionally.'
Vladimir Zelensky noted that the drones are a 'test' by Russia to gauge NATO allies' response.
Responding to requests from Poland and Ukraine, the UK yesterday pledged to strengthen its position in response to Putin's challenge, while NATO confirmed its intent to defend 'every inch' of its allies' territory.
Defense Minister John Healey condemned the 'reckless, dangerous and unprecedented' escalation by Russia following a meeting with the E5 defense ministers from Germany, France, and Italy, as the Polish defense minister was sidetracked by the crisis.
He noted: 'After today’s discussion, I have asked the British Armed Forces to consider options to enhance NATO air defense over Poland.'
Healey also added that 'Russia's actions are irresponsible, dangerous, and unprecedented. We see what Putin is doing. He is testing us again. And again we will stand firm.'
Call for Joint Action
Sir Keir Starmer condemned the 'quite shocking and unprecedented breach' of NATO airspace, stating that it reflects an 'open disregard for peace' on Putin's part. He said he has spoken to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to confirm the UK’s support and thanked NATO and Poland for their swift response.
Tusk reported that 19 Russian drones crossed the border during an attack on western Ukraine, bringing his country closer to its 'closest state of conflict since World War II.'
According to Tusk, four drones were shot down by NATO aircraft – believed to be from Poland, Italy, the Netherlands, and the USA – and it was later found that seven drones remained grounded.
Kremlin representatives deny that the drones are Russian, even shamelessly stating that they could have been launched by Kyiv.
Zelensky has called for action from allies, stating that this sets an 'extremely dangerous precedent for Europe.'
A strong response is needed and can only happen in a united appropriate format: Ukraine, Poland, all Europeans, the United States.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte reported that the Security Council gathered this morning to discuss Poland's Article 4 request.
He also stated: 'Allies are ready to defend every inch of allies' territory.'
