Zelensky: Critical negotiations on missiles for air defense on January 12

According to ТСН: An important meeting with international partners is scheduled for Monday, which will concern the supply of missiles that are lacking for air defense systems.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noted in his evening address that the issue of protecting Ukrainian skies has become central in the report of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi. The participants of the gathering discussed in detail the status of supplies: what is already on the way and what requests have not yet been fulfilled.

Priorities for Ukraine

The negotiations will focus on accelerating the supply of missiles for air defense systems. The President emphasized that Ukraine is aware of the availability of necessary missiles in the warehouses of European countries, which should be handed over to Ukrainian defenders immediately.

“I spoke with Commander Syrskyi; primarily, we talked with the commander about air defense and partner supplies: what is on the way, what is needed, and which requests have not yet been realized to expedite. The first priority is missiles for air defense. In particular, one of the meetings tomorrow will address this,” said the president.

Zelensky also appealed to partners for new contributions to the program supporting Ukraine's defense capabilities.

“New partner contributions are needed for the PURL program; supplies from warehouses in Europe are also necessary: there are missiles in warehouses, and we know about it, and we know all this — they must be with our defenders of the sky,” he added.

Cooperation with the USA

Defense Minister Rustem Umierov also informed the president about the results of negotiations with the American side, indicating that Ukraine is already forming a schedule for upcoming communications.

“Ukraine is maximally constructive and swift in this process. We are not wasting time, unlike Russia,” emphasized Volodymyr Zelensky.

Furthermore, the Mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, noted that the city is unable to fully protect itself from attacks by the Russian Federation, and the situation is critical. The air defense does not have enough resources for effective protection; thus, the capital urgently needs additional air defense systems.

Efforts to invest in the city's security are being made not only by the authorities but also by residents of Kyiv Oblast, who organized protests due to emergency power outages caused by massive Russian attacks on the energy system during the cold snap.

This meeting will become an important stage in equipping Ukraine with a modern air defense system, considering the difficult security situation. Effective supply of missiles from international partners should help strengthen the country's defense capabilities and counter the aggression from Russia. The situation with energy, as well as the critical need for new air defense systems, underscores the urgency of actions and international support.
