Russia's Missile Stockpile Dwindles as Sanctions and Strikes Cripple 'Iskander' Production.
Russia's Declining Missile Arsenal
According to UATV: Russia's missile capabilities are diminishing due to the combined impact of international sanctions and strikes by Ukrainian forces. Production of the 'Iskander-M' and Kh-101 missiles has declined, revealing significant issues within the country's military-industrial complex. Notably, Russia's strategic missile reserves are now virtually depleted, a situation causing concern among military analysts. This erosion of a key military advantage comes after over two years of full-scale war in Ukraine.
Production Capacity and Factory Strikes
According to experts, Russia has the capacity to manufacture up to 30 'Iskander-M' missiles per month. However, production of the Kh-101 cruise missile has fallen sharply, from approximately 35 units in 2022 to just 20 currently. This indicates that the country's industrial capacity is failing to meet the military's operational demands.
On February 12, 2023, Ukraine's Defense Forces struck the 'Michurinsk Plant Progress.' Expert Konstantin Krivolap stated that this seriously damaged the facility.
"It now appears to be seriously damaged, and there will be no production from it for some time," - Konstantin KrivolapHe further emphasized the plant's critical role, noting
"this factory produces innovative guidance systems, homing heads, optics, and various essential components without which missiles cannot be assembled."
Therefore, the reduction in Russia's missile potential is driven not only by external sanctions but also by internal problems with production capacity, which have been directly targeted. These factors could significantly impair Russia's military capabilities in the near future. Given current trends, military analysts are closely monitoring the situation, as decreased missile production may have serious implications for the strategic balance in the region.
