Artificial Breeding of Crayfish: How to Earn 800 UAH per Kg and Avoid Mistakes.
River crayfish are very valuable invertebrates, but due to poaching and diseases, their populations are declining. Therefore, artificial breeding of crayfish is becoming increasingly relevant, particularly in special ponds and on farms.
According to the Kyiv Fisheries Protection Patrol, crayfish breeding can be done in two ways: in ponds or on industrial farms. It is economically more advantageous to grow crayfish in ponds. At the initial stages, juveniles are raised, which already provides profit when there is stable demand. For the growth and development of crayfish, it is important to properly control environmental conditions such as temperature, oxygen in the water, feed base, etc.
Crayfish are grown in small ponds where various parameters are controlled. After growth, juveniles are transferred to larger ponds where they reach marketable weight. Crayfish grow quickly and are beneficial for cleaning water bodies from organic residues.
How Much Can Be Earned from Crayfish in Ukraine
According to OLX, the average price for crayfish in Ukraine in August 2025 ranges from 600 to 800 UAH per kilogram. In regions with lower demand, they can be found cheaper, while in large cities, the price may exceed 1,000 UAH. The price of crayfish also depends on the size, with larger individuals costing more.
Live crayfish have a lower price compared to boiled or processed with spices. It is also important to consider the costs of renting bodies of water, feed, and other technological processes for growing crayfish.
Conclusion
Poaching and diseases lead to a reduction in river crayfish populations, so artificial breeding in special ponds and on farms is gaining increasing popularity in Ukraine. Growing crayfish in this way can bring stable profits, and prices for these invertebrates vary depending on the region and the size of the specimens. This is a profitable business that provides both economic benefits and environmental advantages.Read also
