Marcus Rashford scores two goals for England: how former teammates reacted.
According to The Sun: Marcus Rashford received support from his former teammates at Manchester United after an impressive performance against Newcastle.
The 27-year-old footballer scored his first goals for his new club Barcelona in a 2-1 victory over Newcastle on Thursday.
GettyRashford's second goal amazed everyone — he struck from distance into the top corner of the net, silencing the cries of fans at St James' Park and putting La Liga ahead 2-0.
This match marked a turning point for Rashford after a disappointing end to his career at Manchester United, where he was 'sent to the bomb squad' under coach Ruben Amorim.
Rashford was not alone in this situation — Jadon Sancho, Anthony, Alejandro Garnacho, and Tyrell Malacia also learned that they would have to look for new clubs after not being offered positions at Old Trafford.
After this success in the Champions League, several former players of the 'Red Devils' expressed their support for Rashford on social media, as stewards attempted to prevent fans from invading the pitch.
United captain Bruno Fernandes, who had played 215 matches alongside Rashford, shared a clip of the second goal on his Instagram, adding three shocked emojis and tagging Rashford.
Some fans expressed the view that Fernandes may have violated Amorim's instructions, considering the Portuguese coach's decision to 'send' Rashford to the bomb squad. One fan commented: “This guy is a traitor. Clearly, he doesn’t like Amorim and wants to oust him.”
Another fan wrote: “This only shows the injustice Rashford faced in the locker room during his tenure on the team.”
Support from former teammates
However, Fernandes, who has never hidden his support for his colleagues, also liked Sancho's post, celebrating his debut at Aston Villa last week.
Sancho, who effectively took Rashford's place at Villa after his loan last season, shared a video of Rashford's brilliant goal on his page, adding fire and fireworks emojis. Rashford reposted both messages in his story, demonstrating unconditional support to his 20.4 million followers.
Despite still being listed at United, Sancho has not played for the club since August 2024 after a public conflict with Erik ten Hag and strained relations with Amorim. He was sent to the bomb squad in the summer, after Chelsea declined to make his £25 million loan signing permanent.

In turn, Rashford's current Barcelona teammate Lamine Yamal also expressed support, sharing a post from the celebration with fire emoji.
As for Rashford, he posted saying: “A fantastic way to start the Champions League.”
Comments on the situation
Former United star Nicky Butt, part of the legendary treble-winning team of 1999, commented on BBC: “If I were Ruben Amorim, I would think: ‘What have I done?’”
He added with a smile: “United clearly has issues. Players need to move on if something isn’t working.”
“Marcus needed to feel support, and when that happens, he shows what he is capable of.”
Footballers actively commented on Rashford’s post, including his England teammates and former Villa colleague Morgan Rogers, who added “Wowwww” along with three fire emojis.
In August, Sancho shared a post with Malacia and Anthony along with injured defender Lisandro Martinez, captioning the photo “My brothers.”
