Up to 460,000 UAH in Pay and 10–14 Month Contracts: Fedienko Unveils Major Military Reform.
Debating the Overhaul of Ukraine's Armed Forces
According to Espreso.tv: Oleksandr Fedienko, a Ukrainian lawmaker and member of the parliamentary committee on national security, defense, and intelligence, has laid out the details of a sweeping reform of Ukraine's Armed Forces. The changes target recruitment, military pay, and contract terms, with the stated goals of boosting enlistment, easing social and economic pressures, and increasing compensation for service members.
Core Elements of the Reform
Under the new plan, active-duty soldiers will be offered 10-month contracts, while newly enlisted personnel will serve 14-month contracts. Average monthly pay for troops is set at roughly 300,000 Ukrainian hryvnias, with top salaries reaching as high as 460,000 hryvnias.
Oleksandr Fedienko: 'We will propose contracts for current military personnel.'
He also emphasized the reform's purpose: 'Our task is to increase mobilization, reduce unauthorized absences, and raise service members' pay.' According to the deputy, these measures will help strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities amid ongoing challenges.
This restructuring of Ukraine's military comes as the country faces persistent external threats and internal strains. By improving contract conditions and significantly boosting salaries, the initiative aims to enhance troop motivation and, consequently, national defense. The reforms also seek to reduce social and economic tensions—a critical concern during the protracted conflict. Ultimately, this overhaul is expected to contribute to greater stability within the country and improve the overall conditions of military service.
