RFU receives millions from UEFA: where the money goes during the war.
According to inkorr.com: The latest news from Russian football indicates that the Russian Football Union continues to receive funding from UEFA despite the sanctions imposed on Russian teams. This was stated by Alexander Dyukov, head of the RFU, during an interview with Russian journalists.
"We receive funds from UEFA quite regularly. Honestly, I don't remember - 11 million (euros) or how much. They are used for the development of football, infrastructure construction, and project implementation, for example, for the 'Football in School' program and the UFL," said Dyukov.
Exclusion from international competitions
It is worth noting that due to Russia's military actions against Ukraine, international organizations canceled the participation of Russian athletes in their competitions. This means that the Russian national team will miss out on the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024, as well as the Nations League. Moreover, Russia has been excluded from the qualification for the 2026 World Cup, depriving it of the opportunity to participate in the final tournament.
Reaction of Ukrainian football officials
Ukrainian football officials have expressed their outrage and surprise at the fact that Russian clubs are receiving money from UEFA, hoping that such practices will cease until peace is restored in Donbas.
This situation raises many questions about the ethics of funding sports organizations in the context of the ongoing conflict. Despite sanctions and exclusion from international competitions, financial support from UEFA continues, causing outrage not only in Ukraine but also in the global sports community. Whether this practice will change in the future remains to be seen.
