Rio Ferdinand's blunder on social media

According to The Sun: Rio Ferdinand found himself in an awkward situation online when he published a fake screenshot from a match he played in.

The 46-year-old Ferdinand tried to emphasize that Wayne Rooney is one of the best strikers in England's history by posting this fake image on his X account.

Promoting his interview with former teammate Rooney, Ferdinand wrote: “Do not compare this animal to the likes of Kane, Shearer and them mans pls…”

“Most Complete CF in Premier League History.”

Backing up his opinion, Ferdinand posted an image showing Rooney standing next to David Beckham and Ronaldinho after a match where 'Manchester United' beat 'Milan' 4-0 in the Champions League, and Rooney scored a hat-trick.

However, the image turned out to be manipulated, containing numerous inaccuracies.

Although 'United' indeed won 4-0, Rooney scored only two goals, while the other two were by Darren Fletcher and Park Ji-Sung.

Moreover, Rooney's outfit in the photo did not match the 2009-10 season when the match took place.

Fans quickly pointed out Ferdinand's mistake, noting that he should remember this game since he played in it.

One of them commented: “Rio, you played in this team, man. How can you not understand that this is fake?”

Another added: “A fake photo from a match you played in??”

The third joked: “It’s not too late to delete this.”

Ferdinand and Rooney played together in almost 350 matches for club and country, winning five Premier League titles, one Champions League, and three League Cups.

No one knows Rooney's career better than Ferdinand, who watched him closely.

However, even Rooney himself is not sure who is better in the debate between him and Harry Kane.

He noted on Ferdinand's podcast: “As a player, I’m not sure [who is better]. I think I could do things which potentially he couldn’t. I was nastier than him as well.”

“In terms of goal scoring, he creates goals. People say, ‘Oh, he’s scored against San Marino or this team.’ He scores every game.

“Does he play well all the time? No, but for me he’s above everyone.”

This incident has become a topic of discussion among fans, highlighting the importance of accurate information in the world of social media. It also underlines how crucial it is to approach facts carefully, especially when it comes to outstanding players in football history. The mentioned moments in the relationship between Ferdinand and Rooney could lead to further debates about their achievements on the pitch.
