Ukraine has millions of tons of peat: where the richest deposits are located.
Peat, as an important natural resource, has various applications - from fuel to fertilizers. Ukraine also actively uses peat deposits for its own needs.
Peat extraction in Ukraine
Currently, there are 700 peat deposits in Ukraine, but actual extraction occurs only at 43 of them. Annually, the country extracts about 650 thousand tons of peat, which is mainly used as fuel and fertilizer.
Peat resources of Ukraine
The largest peat reserves are found in the Volyn, Lviv, Rivne, Kyiv, and Chernihiv regions. There are more than 1500 deposits in Ukraine with total reserves of over 1.8 billion tons of peat.
Ukrainian peat has high potential for further chemical processing. Considering the development of environmental legislation, the use of the country's peat resources may significantly increase, meeting the needs of the industrial and agricultural sectors.
Progress in peat extraction can become important in providing various sectors of Ukraine's economy with valuable raw materials.
