Roma's unsuccessful match in the Europa League

According to The Sun: The Roma team endured an unpleasant evening at the Olimpico stadium, conceding three penalties in five minutes and suffering a 0-1 defeat to Lille.

The Italians found themselves behind after a goal from young Icelander Hakon Arnar Haraldsson.

After 72 minutes of goalless struggle, Roma had a chance to equalize due to a penalty awarded for handball by Aissa Mandi in the box at the 80th minute.

Forward Artem Dovbik, who replaced former Brighton player Evan Ferguson, took responsibility for the execution, but his low shot from the right flank was easily saved by goalkeeper Berke Ozer.

Former Southampton player Roman Pero cleared the ball for a corner, which caused outrage among the guests and disappointment for Dovbik.

However, VAR decided to help Roma, establishing that Pero had entered the penalty area, so the penalty needed to be retaken.

Dovbik approached the ball again in the 84th minute, but his shot was even worse—again low and to the right, but less powerful than the first attempt.

The referee quickly noted that Ozer stepped off his line before the kick, allowing Dovbik to avoid embarrassment.

Since Dovbik failed to convert two attempts, the penalties responsibilities were transferred to winger Matias Sulj.

The new executor tried to shoot differently, but the result remained unchanged.

Sulj again shot low to the left, but Ozer proved flawless once more, saving the third penalty literally within minutes.

Lille managed to maintain a 1-0 advantage, which elevated them to sixth place in the Europa League group stage.

This result was unexpected for Roma, as the team had a good start to the Serie A season, winning four out of five possible matches.

Roma also won their only previous Europa League game, defeating Sir Jim Ratcliffe's team 'Nice' 2-1 last week.
