Rory McIlroy prepares for revenge at the Ryder Cup: why Europe could win in the USA.
Rory McIlroy gets ready for the Ryder Cup
According to The Sun: Rory McIlroy eagerly awaits the opportunity for revenge at the Ryder Cup. Paul McGinley is confident in his determination to secure victory away in New York.
The TimesMcIlroy was clearly disappointed by the 19-9 defeat at Whistling Straits four years ago, having managed to earn just one point out of four matches. However, after helping the European team win in Rome in 2023, he assured that the team would win at Bethpage Black.
After finishing his career Grand Slam at the Masters in April, his form dipped slightly, and he admitted that it was hard for him to find his inner drive.
However, after winning the Irish Open two weeks later, McGinley is confident that Rory is back in form.
The European strategic advisor recently visited New York and believes that McIlroy is ready to showcase his best golf in his eighth Ryder Cup in search of a second victory in the USA.
“I am confident that he is hungry for victory. He has been on top in recent days, among all the jokes.”
“He was the first to arrive for breakfast and dinner. You could see how much he enjoys being in such an environment.”
“I am sure that his performance at the K Club was an attempt to prepare for what he considers one of the biggest challenges in golf - winning an away Ryder Cup.”
“Rory has always been a volatile player. His successes have never been linear. He has faced many challenges in his career but has always managed to bounce back.”
Team preparation approach
McIlroy was part of the last European team to win on American soil back in 2012 at the Miracle at Medinah. But after heavy defeats in three of the last four outings, Europe decided to change its approach by bringing in captain Luke Donald and 11 of the 12 players from Rome.
“The first step is to bring back a captain who has already been there. That was the most important.”
“Secondly, data shows that rookies earn very few points during away matches. Therefore, experience is incredibly important.”
“Thirdly, it’s about communication among players and interaction in away game conditions.”
“This is the most prepared team I have ever seen. The details we adhere to are impressive for the toughest away challenges, such as New York.”
“The starting point is whether the players can perform in a hostile environment.”
