Russian Forces Launch Large-Scale Attack on February 20

According to UATV: On February 20, Russian military forces targeted Ukrainian territory in a significant assault, employing an 'Iskander-M' ballistic missile and 128 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), predominantly 'Shahed' type drones. Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepted and destroyed 107 of the hostile drones. This attack is part of a sustained campaign of aerial bombardment against Ukrainian infrastructure and population centers.

The assault originated from multiple launch points within Russia and occupied territory, including:

  • Bryansk
  • Kursk
  • Oryol
  • Shatalovo
  • Primorsko-Akhtarsk

as well as from the occupied Donetsk region. Of the total number of drones, approximately 80 were identified as 'Shahed' models. Ukrainian air defenses demonstrated high effectiveness, eliminating 21 attack drones across 14 different locations.

Regional Military Context

This incident underscores the escalating military tensions in the region and confirms the continued activity of hostile forces, which persist in attacking Ukrainian territories using both drones and missile systems. The use of the 'Iskander' missile, a short-range ballistic weapon, represents a significant escalation in the type of armaments deployed.

The February 20 attack indicates a rising intensity of military actions in eastern Ukraine, which could have serious implications for regional security. The destruction of a large number of enemy drones demonstrates the capability of Ukraine's air defense network, yet also highlights persistent threats from Russian forces, which continue to expand their operations. These events are likely to influence the future trajectory of the conflict and the international community's response to the situation in Ukraine.
