Massive Russian Assault on Ukraine: 219 Drones and 25 Missiles Kill Two.
February 12th Attack on Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: In a major overnight assault on February 12th, Russian forces launched 219 attack drones and 25 missiles, 24 of which were ballistic, resulting in the deaths of two people and leaving more than ten wounded. The primary targets of this strike were energy generation facilities and substations in the cities of Kyiv, Odesa, and Dnipro. This relentless targeting of critical infrastructure is a hallmark of Russia's winter campaign against Ukraine.
Damage from the strikes was recorded in the Kharkiv region, as well as in the Donetsk, Kyiv, and Kherson oblasts. A direct hit was registered on a building belonging to the State Emergency Service in the city of Kramatorsk.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the situation, stating, 'Most were neutralized, but unfortunately, not all.'
Zelenskyy further emphasized that 'the main target of the strike is energy in Kyiv, Odesa, and Dnipro.' He added that 'there must be more protection of life from these strikes,' pointing to the urgent need for enhanced safety measures for the population. This attack is the latest evidence of the conflict's escalation and its severe impact on civilians.
Strategic Aims of the Assault
This massive barrage is part of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, now in its second year. The strike on energy infrastructure underscores Russia's strategic goal of destabilizing Ukraine during the winter period, when reliable power is most critical. President Zelenskyy's statements highlight the necessity of strengthening defensive measures and protecting civilians in the face of escalating threats from the aggressor.
