Russian Forces Target Ukrainian Railways: 41 Sites Damaged in 18 March Attacks.
Railway Infrastructure Under Fire: 18 Strikes Recorded in Ukraine Since March Began
According to Novyny.live: Since the start of March, Russian military forces have carried out 18 separate attacks on Ukraine's railway system, damaging a total of 41 sites. These strikes, averaging six per day, have severely disrupted rail operations, with rolling stock and passenger carriages being the primary targets.
Of the damaged assets, 17 were units of rolling stock. These assaults pose a grave threat to civilians. For instance, on March 2nd, Russian forces attacked a civilian Ukrzaliznytsia train in the Dnipropetrovsk region, resulting in casualties, including fatalities. The Ukrainian railway network is a vital lifeline for both civilian movement and military logistics, making it a frequent target.
A spokesperson for Ukrzaliznytsia stated: 'Since the beginning of the month, 41 objects have been damaged. Among the main targets is rolling stock: damage to 17 units has been recorded. The enemy is also striking passenger carriages.'
These bombardments underscore the perilous conditions facing Ukraine's rail transport and raise serious concerns for passenger safety.
The escalating number of attacks on railway infrastructure points to a deliberate Russian strategy to destabilize Ukraine's transport links, complicating the movement of people and essential goods. This situation highlights the urgent need for enhanced safety measures for civilians using rail travel, as the threat remains acute and ongoing.
