Drone Strike on Zaporizhzhia Kills Woman, Injures Six Others.
Zaporizhzhia Targeted in Overnight Attack
According to UATV: On February 18, Russian forces launched a drone assault on a residential district of Zaporizhzhia. The attack resulted in the death of one woman and left six people wounded, including two children. The strike caused extensive damage to the area, impacting over 100 apartments. This city in southeastern Ukraine has been a frequent target since the onset of the full-scale invasion.
The nighttime attack had severe consequences, with explosions shattering windows and destroying balconies across three nine-story buildings. To prevent further damage, wooden boards were installed over the broken windows. By the next morning, 98% of all windows had been covered, with the remaining 2% belonging to residents who were not present during the strike.
About 98% of the windows are now covered. The remaining 2% are for people who are now arriving; they were not on site during the night. — Volodymyr Volobuyev
Utility services and rescue teams immediately began recovery efforts following the impact, working to clear the damage and assist the victims. This incident underscores the grave and persistent dangers facing civilians in conflict zones.
Wider Impact of the Assault
The strike on Zaporizhzhia is part of an ongoing pattern of military actions targeting Ukrainian cities. The increasing frequency of attacks on civilian infrastructure endangers the population and highlights the urgent need for a coordinated international response. Ensuring the protection of civilians and their homes remains a critical priority amid the constant threat of violence.
