Ukrainian military used FPV drones against Russian ship: new tactics at sea.
According to FREEДOM:
Use of FPV drones for strikes on Russian ships
The fighters of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine launched an attack on the Russian small missile ship 'Buyan-M', which was in the Sea of Azov, using an FPV drone. This technology is planned to be actively used to destroy the enemy's marine drones in the future. This was stated by military analyst Denis Popovich during a broadcast on the FREEДOM TV channel.
'I would really consider the use of FPV drones to defeat the enemy's unmanned marine drones in the near future. Why? Because unfortunately, information has appeared, and it has been confirmed by the Ukrainian side that the Russians used an unmanned marine drone of their own production to defeat a Ukrainian ship in the Sea of Azov,' noted the military analyst.
According to Popovich, this situation raises serious concerns, as the Zaporizhzhia region is populated with marine drones that allowed Ukraine to gain an advantage in the Black Sea.
'And now the enemy has taken over this technology and is trying to obviously regain this advantage from us. Therefore, the use of FPV drones by Ukraine against the ships of the Russian army is commendable. But I believe that in the future, this will be a good means of combating Russia's unmanned marine drones, which the Russians will scale in the future to strike Ukrainian ships and port infrastructure. That is — the war is entering a new level. And apparently, we will soon see robot battles at sea. Right now we see them on land and in the air. But time moves forward and there will be robot battles at sea in the future,' summarized Denis Popovich.
Earlier, military analyst and former SBU employee Ivan Stupak noted that Ukraine has repeatedly struck Russian vessels in the Black Sea. However, the Kremlin currently considers the Sea of Azov to be its own lake, and breaking through the front line there is quite difficult. However, Ukrainian Defense Forces managed to do this by striking the Russian missile carrier 'Buyan-M'.
This news underscores the current challenges and changes in the maritime military strategy of both countries. The use of cutting-edge technologies such as FPV drones indicates that the war is becoming increasingly technological, with a focus not only on traditional military means but also on unmanned systems. This could radically change the balance of power in the region, and the future of naval conflicts will likely be filled with new technological solutions and tactical schemes.
