Russia demands return to sport: who supports Rotenberg's initiative.
Roman Rotenberg commented on the issue of the Russian national team's return to international competitions
According to inkorr.com: Roman Rotenberg, the first vice-president of the Russian Hockey Federation, expressed his opinion on the return of the Russian national team to international competitions under the auspices of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). According to 'Glavkom', the men's and women's national teams of Russia will not be able to participate in the 2026 Olympics. Next year, elections will be held for a new president of the IIHF.
"The main task is for the person who comes [to the post of IIHF president] to support various countries, primarily Russia, based on sporting principles rather than political motives. Because without Russia, IIHF profits have fallen. The federations of the USA and Canada are positively inclined, while European federations have their own goals. They have received those revenues from the pie that previously went to the Russian team, so they view everything from a mercantile point of view. Therefore, from the perspective of revenue distribution, Russia is not needed by them," said the oligarch.
On sanctions and the participation of Russian athletes in competitions
Rotenberg is under sanctions from the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand for supporting the policy of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, which threatens the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine.
Russian freestyle skier Anastasia Tatalina appealed to the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) to allow her to participate in the 2026 Olympic Games.
Tatalina is a member of the Russian military club CSKA, an organization directly linked to Russia's military actions in Ukraine.
"I represent Russia, and I was proud when the President of Russia Vladimir Vladimirovich (Putin) sent me a telegram after winning the world championship," she said in April 2022.
Tatalina also liked a post with the military slogan "we do not abandon our own."
This news highlights Roman Rotenberg's position regarding the return of the Russian national team to sports competitions and the importance of international support in sports. The issue of sanctions against Russian athletes and their ability to participate in international tournaments remains relevant in light of the political circumstances.
