Russia sends Dmitriev to the USA: the goal is to influence the media and negotiations.
According to inkorr.com: Moscow has decided to send Kirill Dmitriev, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, to the United States to strengthen its positions in the American media landscape. This move aims to promote Russian narratives and reduce the negative reaction of the West to Washington's actions.
Visit to the USA under sanctions and discussions about weapons for Ukraine
Dmitriev arrived in the USA on October 24 for 'official negotiations', however, instead of political comments, he focused on interviews in major American media outlets like CNN and Fox News. During his appearances, he tried to reassure the Western audience that sanctions had not dealt a serious blow to the Russian economy and that Kyiv was already ready to make compromises in negotiations.
Experts note that this visit coincided with the tightening of sanctions against Russia, the permission for Ukraine to use certain missiles on Russian territory, and debates about potential weapons supplies for Kyiv.
Russian propaganda under the banner of 'peace'
Dmitriev spread the standard positions of the Kremlin, attempting to show that Kyiv was ready for a ceasefire, but the resolution of the conflict must take place at Russia's initiative. This position is aimed at legitimizing Moscow's demands and presenting them as a condition for 'peaceful' settlement.
According to experts, Dmitriev's theses may serve to change the government in Ukraine to a pro-Russian one, as well as impose demands on Ukraine regarding neutrality. Thus, Moscow, instead of constructive negotiations, opts for informational aggression, trying to shape a favorable image for itself, positioning itself as a peacemaker, while keeping its demands unchanged.
As a result of Dmitriev's visit to the USA, it becomes clear that Moscow is trying to change the West's perception of the situation in Eastern Europe through its propaganda and dictate its own conditions for resolving the conflict with Ukraine.
