Three Russian Glide Bombs Hit Sloviansk: Nine Wounded, Donetsk’s Only Maternity Ward Shut Down.
Strike on Sloviansk
According to UATV: On June 8, Russia launched an attack on Sloviansk in Donetsk Oblast using three high-explosive aerial bombs. Nine people were injured in the assault, including a 17-year-old girl. The strike occurred near the city’s maternity hospital, raising serious alarm among local residents.
The bombing completely destroyed one private home and damaged three private houses along with 12 apartment buildings. An administrative building, a sports school, and seven civilian vehicles were also hit. Notably, the obstetric ward—the only one of its kind in Donetsk Oblast—was closed in the aftermath.
“No one was hurt by the FAB-250 strike near the maternity hospital, but the incident prompted the decision to shut down the obstetric unit,” said Vadym Liakh.
Ukraine’s National Police provided a detailed account of the attack’s consequences, reporting that:
- one private house was completely leveled;
- three private homes and 12 apartment buildings were damaged;
- an administrative building, a sports school, and seven civilian cars were affected.
This event underscores the ongoing volatility in the region and its direct toll on civilians.
Humanitarian Toll of the Conflict
The assault on Sloviansk is part of the protracted war in eastern Ukraine, where military actions continue to devastate civilian life. The closure of the region’s only maternity ward poses a critical threat to women’s and newborn healthcare, highlighting the vulnerability of medical facilities in warzones. This incident further emphasizes the urgent need for international focus on the humanitarian crisis stemming from the conflict in Ukraine.
