Russian Forces Target Konstantinovka with White Phosphorus, Leaving 2000 Civilians Trapped.
White Phosphorus Strike on Konstantinovka
According to UATV: Russian military forces have attacked the city of Konstantinovka in the Donetsk region using white phosphorus munitions, a weapon prohibited under international law for use against civilian areas. This assault has left approximately 2,000 civilians trapped within the city, raising grave concerns for their safety and exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in eastern Ukraine.
A Pattern of Using Banned Munitions
Pilots from the R.V. unit of the 3rd Mechanized Battalion documented Russian forces firing white phosphorus into a residential district of the city. This occurred during operations by the 28th Separate Mechanized Brigade named for the Knights of the Winter Campaign, which is active in the region. The situation in Konstantinovka remains tense, with further actions posing severe risks to the remaining civilian population.
From February 2023 to May 2025, a total of 9,388 instances have been documented where Russian troops employed munitions containing dangerous chemical substances. This data indicates a systematic pattern of using banned weaponry on Ukrainian territory. The repeated use of such illegal arms, including incendiary white phosphorus, violates international conventions and has drawn sharp condemnation from global observers.
These attacks not only deepen the humanitarian emergency, with a large number of civilians now in immediate danger, but also risk escalating the conflict further. The ongoing reliance on prohibited weapons could lead to additional international sanctions against Russia and prolong the suffering within the region.
