Russia has changed its tactics near Pokrovsk: how it affected the course of battles

According to inkorr.com: Analysts conducted research on the changes in Russia's tactics in Pokrovsk. The information was provided by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) and published by the publication 'Wave'.

According to analysts, Russian troops had been working for almost two years to capture Pokrovsk. The imperial forces have covered almost forty kilometers from Avdiivka to the city in the Donetsk region, spending 21 months on this.

The attack on Pokrovsk began in February 2024, immediately after the capture of Avdiivka by Russia. Initially, the occupiers tried to seize the city through direct attacks in the spring of last year, but failed. Only in the autumn of 2024 did the Russian troops change their strategy and resort to flanking maneuvers.

New approaches of the Russian army

In the winter of 2025, the enemy carried out a series of operations towards Pokrovsk, but this sector remained overlooked until July of the current year. The main obstacle to the Russians' advance was the Ukrainian drones, which effectively restrained the aggressor for eight months - from the end of 2024 to mid-2025.

Currently, the successes of the Russian army near Pokrovsk are primarily due to the new tactics of interaction with Ukrainian drones. Reports from the Armed Forces of Ukraine performing tasks on this front emphasize that daily, the occupiers launch several dozen assault groups of two to three soldiers each. Their attacks are so intense that drone operators cannot keep up with launching the drones.

In a fresh report, analysts assess how Russia has adapted its tactics during the fight for Pokrovsk. The capture of the city has been a challenging task for the Russian military, but new approaches and strategies have allowed them to achieve some measure of success.

This information is important for understanding the current situation on the front, as the change in tactics of Russian troops may affect the development of events in the region. Such adaptation may indicate the occupiers' readiness to adopt new methods to achieve their goals, highlighting the significance of drones in modern warfare.
