Russian Forces Amass 150,000 Troops Near Pokrovsk as Ukraine's Defense Continues.
The Situation Around Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad
According to UATV: Russian military forces are continuing their offensive in the Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad area, aiming to sever the logistical supply lines of Ukraine's defense forces. Despite advances by the occupying troops, the defense of these cities persists. As of February 12, 2023, between 150,000 and 170,000 Russian soldiers from a total force of 700,000 have been concentrated on this sector of the front. This region is a critical part of the Donbas, where fighting has been intense for months.
Since the start of the day on February 12, 132 combat engagements have occurred along the front. Denis Popovych, a spokesperson for Ukrainian forces, noted that:
"Currently, the Russians are attempting to operate across a larger part of the flanks, attacking Hryshyne and Rodynske" - Denis Popovych
He also confirmed that 'fighting is taking place directly in Rodynske.' These events point to a significant escalation of combat operations in this region, increasing the overall tension on the frontline.
The Status of Ukrainian Forces
Despite the difficult conditions, Ukrainian forces continue to hold their positions, resisting the occupiers' attempts to seize strategically important territory. The situation remains under control but demands constant vigilance and readiness for potential new attacks from the enemy.
Recent developments around Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad indicate a rise in the intensity of hostilities, which could have major consequences for the overall situation on the front. The concentration of such a large number of Russian troops in this area suggests the possibility of further attempts by the occupiers to advance deeper into Ukrainian territory. Demonstrating resilience, Ukrainian forces are striving to halt the offensive, underscoring the importance of this front sector to both sides. This situation requires continuous monitoring and assessment to understand potential future scenarios in the conflict.
