Russians Massively Received Tax Notifications: What They Will Have to Pay.
Russians Received Notifications About Income Tax on Bank Deposits
According to inkorr.com: Citizens of Russia have begun to receive notifications from the tax service about the necessity to pay income tax on bank deposits for the year 2024. This information was provided by the Ukrainian Foreign Intelligence Service.
Introduction of a New Obligation
According to the SBU, this new obligation was implemented by the government after the start of the full-scale war with Ukraine, to compensate for the financial losses of the budget by shifting the burden of financing onto the citizens.
'The tax is levied on the interest received on deposits in all banks of Russia. The basic rate is 13%, and for citizens with an annual income of over 5 million rubles - 15%. From 2025, Russia will have a progressive tax scale with a maximum rate of 22%, and taxes on deposits will be assessed according to it starting from 2026,' experts explained.
Budget Replenishment Through Taxation
The intelligence also noted that while the authorities speak of 'social justice', in reality, this is merely an attempt to replenish the budget, which is significantly suffering from military expenses. 'The first receipts from this tax in 2023 brought 111 billion rubles to the RF,' the SBU reported.
The income tax on bank deposits in Russia has become part of the government's strategy to compensate for financial losses due to the war. This new obligation has triggered a reaction among citizens who are receiving notifications about paying income tax on their deposits.
Thus, the new tax is becoming a tool for budget replenishment, as the Russian authorities face serious financial challenges amid the prolonged war. Citizens are already reacting to the new demands, and the issue of taxing deposits promises to remain a focal point in public attention.
