Attack on the Cargo Vessel Golden Leo

According to Espreso.tv: The ongoing war in the Black Sea has taken another civilian toll. On July 19, the Guinea-Bissau-flagged ship Golden Leo was struck by Russian missiles while transporting a cargo of corn. The assault occurred in waters 22 to 24 meters deep. Three X-59/X-69 missiles were fired, with one hitting the vessel's superstructure. The attack triggered a fire and claimed ten lives. Within 30 minutes, the ship sank completely.

Initial reports indicated five fatalities and five missing crew members. Eight sailors were successfully evacuated and taken to hospitals in Odesa for treatment. Emergency services continue to manage the situation.

Rising Dangers for Non-Combatant Ships

This incident underscores the growing hazards faced by civilian vessels amid military hostilities, especially in the Black Sea region where active combat operations threaten seafarers' lives and the safety of international maritime trade. The sinking of the Golden Leo is likely to reignite discussions about shipping security in the area and the urgent need for international responses to such threats.
