800,000 Books Lost After Russian Strike Destroys BookChef Publisher’s Warehouse.
Logistics Hub for BookChef Hit in Attack
According to Novyny.live: A Russian assault during the night of July 1–2 destroyed a storage facility operated by Denka Logistics, the distribution partner for the Ukrainian publishing house BookChef. The strike resulted in the loss of roughly 800,000 books. Fortunately, all employees survived, but the devastation has severely disrupted the company’s supply chain operations.
Fallout for the Publisher’s Operations
BookChef CEO Oleksandr Kirpichov confirmed that the attack has dealt a heavy blow to the business.
'For the time being, we are unable to receive, process, or ship orders as we normally would,'he stated. The publisher has also paused all promotional campaigns until conditions stabilize.
This incident underscores the ongoing toll the conflict is taking on Ukraine’s cultural sector, as the warehouse’s destruction represents a major loss not only for BookChef but also for the readers who would have received these books. Amid the challenges facing cultural institutions, it is worth highlighting the resilience of companies working to resume operations and sustain the country’s cultural life.
