Russian Aircraft Vanish from Skies Over Black and Azov Seas, But Drone Reconnaissance Continues
According to Novyny.live: Russian military aircraft have all but disappeared from the airspace above the Black and Azov Seas in recent days, with only isolated flights now being recorded. This stark reduction in activity is attributed to seasonal weather patterns and adverse conditions. This maritime region has been a critical theater for surveillance and strikes since the onset of the full-scale invasion.
"Currently, aviation activity over the sea is minimal. We're talking about single flights, unlike previous stages of the conflict," said Dmytro Pletenchuk.
However, Russian intelligence-gathering operations persist, albeit on a reduced scale compared to periods of favorable weather.
"The enemy is still conducting reconnaissance," Pletenchuk noted.
To compensate for the lack of traditional aircraft, Russian forces are actively deploying various types of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for both strikes and reconnaissance missions. Key drone models in use include:
- 'Orlan' drones
- 'Zala'
- 'Supercam'
- 'Forpost'
- 'Orion'
These drones gather intelligence and perform tasks that allow Russian forces to maintain situational awareness and operational control, despite the sharp decline in manned flights. "The classic tool remains 'Shahed' drones, as seen last night, but they are not the only ones being used," added Dmytro Pletenchuk.
In summary, while the visible presence of Russian aircraft over the Black and Azov Seas has diminished, reconnaissance activities continue unabated through alternative means. This demonstrates the Russian military's adaptation to challenging environmental conditions and its ongoing effort to monitor the strategic maritime area.
The shift in Russian tactics—from heavy reliance on manned aircraft to a greater dependence on drone networks—highlights their attempt to sustain pressure and gather intelligence under adverse weather. The continued reconnaissance effort underscores a strategic priority to maintain influence over the region, which could shape the conflict's dynamics in the coming months.
