Ukrainian Police Foil Russian Spy Plot, Arrest 10 for Targeting Officials and Journalists.
Ukrainian National Police Operation
According to UATV: In a major security operation, Ukraine's National Police has dismantled a criminal network acting on orders from Russian intelligence services. The group was plotting assassinations of prominent Ukrainian media figures and political leaders. Authorities arrested ten individuals in connection with the plot: seven within Ukraine and three in Moldova, including the group's alleged organizer.
Targets and Consequences
According to investigators, the group's intended targets included:
- Journalists;
- Employees of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine's Ministry of Defense;
- Fighters of the Ukrainian Foreign Legion.
Significantly, the criminal network recruited Moldovan citizens to carry out its missions inside Ukraine. All detained individuals have now been formally notified of the suspicions against them. This plot is part of a broader pattern of Russian covert operations aimed at destabilizing Ukraine, which have intensified since the full-scale invasion began in 2022.
The Ukrainian National Police is preparing a request to the court for the suspects to be held in pre-trial detention. The operation highlights the severe threat to national security and the critical role of law enforcement in countering external aggression.
This operation demonstrates the proactive efforts of Ukrainian law enforcement to combat external threats, particularly the activities of Russian intelligence services seeking to destabilize the situation in Ukraine.
The arrests underscore the vital importance of international cooperation in combating terrorist activities and ensuring state security.
