The World Weightlifting Championship will be held from October 2 to 11 in Ferda (Norway).
Violations of Ukrainian laws
Regina Shaidullina, Anastasia Romanova, and Yana Sotiyeva participated in the training camp of the women's Russian weightlifting team held in temporarily occupied Alushta (Crimea) in 2022. Kristina Novitska also visited Crimea illegally, although she was not present at the camp.
These athletes were able to enter the territory of Crimea by circumventing customs and border control, indicating violations of Ukrainian legislation.
Threat to national security
According to the resource Base of Ukrainian Sports, the Russian female weightlifters who participated in the camp in Alushta pose a threat to Ukraine's national interests. There is a justified demand to initiate criminal proceedings against them.
In addition, Russian military personnel, including Anastasia Romanova, Artem Okulov, Danilo Vagaitsev, Zulfat Garaev, Georgiy Kuptsov, and others, have also been permitted to participate in the World Championship.
Thus, Russian weightlifters who violated Ukraine's legislation have received permission to participate in the World Weightlifting Championship, highlighting the danger they pose to national security. Measures are required to hold them accountable.
This situation raises serious concerns in Ukraine, as violations of legislation and the participation of Russian athletes in international competitions threaten national security. The Ukrainian side calls on the international community to pay attention to this issue and take necessary measures to prevent similar cases in the future.
