Russian Attack on Chernobyl: Zelensky Warned of the Threat of Radiation Incidents.
Russia's Attack on the Power Substation in Slavutych
According to inkorr.com: Vladimir Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, mentioned on his social media page that the strike by Russian forces on the power substation in Slavutych led to a prolonged power outage. This affected the territory of the former Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, including the new shelter over the fourth reactor and the site for storing spent nuclear fuel.
According to Zelensky, for this attack, the Russian military used more than 20 drones, regardless of the potential risks to the Chernobyl sites. The attack was aimed at complicating the protection of critical infrastructure, although some drones were destroyed.
'Russia deliberately creates the threat of radiation incidents, exploiting the weakness of the IAEA and Director Rafael Grossi, and distracting the world's attention,' the president emphasized.
Furthermore, power outages continue at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant due to Russian shelling, complicating the restoration of external electricity supply. Zelensky urged the international community to unite and increase pressure on Russia to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The President of Ukraine emphasized the importance of unity in response to Russian aggression, stressing that the international community must act decisively to prevent new attacks on critical infrastructure. This situation once again underscores how vital the security of energy facilities is in wartime.
