Ruben Amorim and his tactics: why Manchester United will lose, but Chelsea won't.
Ruben Amorim is not suited for Manchester United, says Paul Merson
According to The Sun: Expert Paul Merson believes that Chelsea's squad is better suited for Ruben Amorim than Manchester United. This week has brought further troubles for the coach, as he suffered his 20th defeat in charge of United, marking his 16th defeat in the Premier League out of 31 matches.
Amorim has been advised to leave UnitedGetty GettyThis result left United in the lower part of the table, while Chelsea continues unbeaten after four matches. Merson is confident that Amorim could achieve greater success at Chelsea, as the club has shown interest in his candidacy for several years.
“Ruben Amorim, the way he wants to play, raises concerns. He will not change. He will say, ‘I have reached where I am by playing the way I play’, utilizing three defenders and a high line of wing-backs,” he noted.
“He would be an ideal option for Chelsea. They have world-class wing-backs in Reece James and Malo Gusto. They have the best defensive midfielder in the league in Moises Caicedo. This would fit the players.
Merson also emphasized that Amorim's system does not suit United due to a mismatch of players, particularly the wing-backs.
“After a heavy 3-0 defeat to Manchester City, Amorim is once again under criticism for his tactical decisions,” he added.
United legend Paul Scholes highlighted in the podcast 'The Good the Bad and the Football':
“Speaking about his philosophy, his style of play, how he wants to play... There are many clever coaches in England and around the world who would easily figure this out.”
Currently, Amorim has the worst win percentage of any United manager since World War II, and the team sits at the bottom of the table among clubs with a constant presence since his appointment.
The situation surrounding Ruben Amorim raises serious questions among fans and experts. If he cannot adapt his tactics, the manager's future at United may be at risk. Chelsea, in turn, may endure another serious consideration of his candidacy; the experience and game management he could bring to the club could prove decisive.
