The fight will take place in an exhibition format, meaning its results will not count towards the fighters' professional records.

Timothy Shipman, Executive Director of the Florida Athletic Commission, stated: “This type of fight cannot be conducted as a professional meeting. This will be an exhibition fight.”

Initially, the event was planned to take place at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, but Georgia Athletic Commission chairman, Rick Thompson, opposed such a competition format.

He emphasized: “This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. This is just a way to make money, and I disagree with it.”

Paul's promoters, Most Valuable Promotions, attempted to lift the weight difference restrictions between the boxers by submitting a petition to change the rules.

They proposed that the boxers use 12-ounce gloves and undergo testing with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), according to USA Today.

The statement regarding the rule change noted: “Larger gloves for Paul and Davis will provide additional protection for the fighters and reduce the risk of injury during the exhibition fight.”

Jake Paul competes in the cruiserweight category at 200 pounds, while Gervonta Davis is the lightweight champion with a limit of 135 pounds.

Due to a weight difference of more than FIVE STONES, the fight will take place in exhibition mode. Paul, 28, typically competes with 10-ounce gloves, while 30-year-old Davis uses 8-ounce.

In November, Mike Tyson returned to the ring at 58 years old to face Paul in Texas during the first-ever Netflix boxing broadcast.

The competition was conducted as a confirmed professional one, but with shorter rounds of 2 minutes each. The number of rounds and the duration of the fight between Paul and Davis have yet to be confirmed.

In 2021, Paul’s brother, Logan, also fought Floyd Mayweather in a similar exhibition fight, which lasted eight rounds of three minutes and ended with no winner declared.

“I can tell you we will have a fight that will produce a definitive outcome, whether it's a knockout or a decision.”

Paul's promotion partner, Nakisa Bidarian, also confirmed that the winner will be determined in the fight against Davis. He told ESPN: “I can tell you that we will have a fight that will produce a definitive outcome, whether it's a knockout or a decision.”

Bidarian also noted that Thompson's criticism led to the event being moved from Georgia to Florida. He said: “Unfortunately, we made the decision to move the event from Georgia after numerous interviews conducted by Commissioner Rick Thompson, who seems to have personal motives, publicly distorting facts and undermining what was supposed to be a major event for Atlanta.”

“No tickets were ever on sale, and every step of this process has been discussed in close communication with the Executive Director of the Commission.”

“This event could bring significant benefits to the city, state, and sport.”

Recently, Jake Paul has shown successful performance, defeating former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in June, allowing him to rank 14th in the cruiserweight division by WBA.

Currently, Gervonta Davis finished a fight in a draw with Lamont Roach in March, but refused a rematch to meet Paul.
