Drone Incident in Romania Sparks Urgent NATO Appeal
According to UATV: Romania has called on NATO to expedite the delivery of air defense systems following a Russian drone strike that hit a residential building in the city of Galati. The attack, which occurred on the night of May 29, has raised serious alarms within the Romanian government.
Admiral Alexus Grynkewich, NATO's Supreme Allied Commander, expressed support for Bucharest's proposals to bolster defenses. Commenting on the event, Romania's prime minister stated that
“the drone strike is an unacceptable and blatant violation of Romanian airspace”and stressed the need for international backing on the matter. President Nicusor Dan of Romania squarely placed responsibility for the incident on the Russian Federation.
Consulate Closure and Escalating Tensions
In response to the deteriorating relationship with Russia, Romania shut down the Russian Federation's consulate general in Constanta and declared the Russian ambassador persona non grata. These actions underscore Romania's deep concern over regional security and stability.
