Shift in Russian Drone Warfare: New Shahed Tactics Target Ukraine's Rear Areas.
Russia Adjusts Its Military Approach
According to UATV: Russian forces have altered their strike strategy in Ukraine, now deploying Shahed-type drones to hit rear-echelon targets. Serhii Beskrestnov highlighted this tactical shift, noting that production lines are being partially retooled for serial manufacturing of jet-powered Shahed drones. He emphasized a move away from mass-attack waves toward more selective, precision strikes.
Strikes on Ukrainian Infrastructure
According to available reports, roughly 200 drones are launched daily against energy facilities, gas stations, and transportation networks. On the night of July 7, 2023, Russia launched an assault on Ukraine using 123 attack drones, including:
- Shahed
- Gerbera
- Italmas
- Parody-type decoy drones
Data indicates that impacts were recorded at 10 locations during this attack.
This change in Russian tactics reflects an adaptation to wartime conditions and a drive to inflict maximum damage on Ukraine's infrastructure.
The evolution of these tactics may point to a growing emphasis on strategic targets, such as Ukraine's energy security. By shifting to selective drone strikes, Russia appears to aim at degrading Ukrainian military effectiveness while increasing pressure on civilians. Given these developments, monitoring Ukraine's defensive adjustments and the international response to such attacks becomes crucial.
