Russell Martin could take over at Luton: Former Rangers coach is already on the list of candidates.
Firing at Rangers
According to The Sun: Russell Martin was surprisingly dismissed as head coach of the 'Rangers' before the evening. He is already a candidate for one of the coaching positions in England.
Russell Martin was dismissed as head coach of the Rangers PA Could Martin soon return to Kenilworth Road? GettyAt the time of his dismissal, 39-year-old Martin had a tough spell at 'Rangers', ending his tenure with a not very successful game - a 1-1 draw against 'Falkirk'.
During his tenure, he won only five out of 17 matches, and in the league, there was only one victory after five defeats followed.
Many tired fans expressed their dissatisfaction early in the season and criticized him after the 0-6 defeat against 'Club Brugge'. Over time, the pressure for Martin's dismissal grew, and the club management recently decided to terminate his contract just four months after his appointment.
The team currently occupies eighth place in the table, 11 points behind league leaders 'Hearts' and nine points behind 'Celtic'.
Among the possible successors are Steven Gerrard, Kevin Muscat, and Sean Dyche.
Martin's Future
Before the 'Rangers', Martin coached 'MK Dons', 'Swansea', and 'Southampton'. He was recognized for his successful play at 'MK Dons' and 'Swansea', although he failed to secure impressive results in the table for those clubs.
In 2023, after relegation from the Premier League, he took over 'Southampton', bringing the team back to the top league by winning in the playoffs against 'Leeds'. However, his stay in the Premier League was unsuccessful - the team only achieved one victory in 16 matches.
After the quick dismissal from 'Rangers', Martin became the shortest-serving coach in the club's history and has the lowest win percentage among his permanent coaches - just over 29%.
Interestingly, Martin is already regarded as one of the favorites for the vacant position at 'Luton'. Following the dismissal of Matt Bloomfield, the team is in 11th place in League One.
Odds for the new Luton manager
Luke Williams 4/1
Ian Evatt 5/1
Richie Wellens 6/1
Russell Martin 8/1
Jack Wilshere 8/1
Sean Dyche 8/1
Luton played in the Premier League two seasons ago, and Martin is one of the favorites for this position with odds of 8/1, alongside Sean Dyche.
Currently, the top candidate is Luke Williams at 4/1, while Ian Evatt has odds of 5/1.
In light of all this, the head coach of Leyton Orient, Richie Wellens, and other candidates, including Steven Gerrard, also have chances for this role.
